Canadian Reflections….
July 1, 2022, Churchill, Manitoba
Today I acknowledge Canada Day: Pausing for a moment of silence - for the heinous tragedies caused by Canadian leaders to destroy First Peoples. To feel the most compassionate part of my heart for pain caused by governments to destroy human beings.
Today I celebrate the madly diverse and magnificent landscapes of Canada: Crossing traditional lands of the First Peoples of Canada, exploring prairies, mountains, oceans, lakes, rivers, northern and southern borders, people, culture, food…. this I celebrate.
Today I am grateful that I live in Canada: For health care, education, arts and industry funding, for road/rail infrastructure and national parks, and that we embrace multiculturalism as our shared identity.
I don’t outright celebrate Canada or Canada Day: I will sit in quiet reflection and love for those impacted so brutally by our past, and in disbelief for those that stood by…
…and I will continue to look ahead, hopeful and excited for what we can do next - together - for my children and their future.
