Team Honor and Industry Recovery

After a mini hiatus to Toronto for work, I am back on the road to complete the Alberta itinerary with a few nights in Canmore, time to explore in Jasper and then off to Saskatchewan for the beginning of June.
Toronto was Destination Canada work. It has been and continues to be a crazy privilege to be a member of a national tourism family for over 20 years in Canada. They are colleagues, friends, owners, advocates, marketers, international sales agents, executives and front line professionals – we are a family. We have governed, celebrated, faced global crisis, terrorism, pandemics, elections, budget cuts, job changes, leadership shifts, many wins and heartbreaking losses (rest in peace Charlotte Bell).
My Toronto work included Destination Canada Board meetings, and to observe and engage with national tourism stakeholders. After the first in-person event since 2019 for Rendezvous Canada, and where many workplaces are still trying to figure out new hybrid, we were together as the Destination Canada (DC) team to bring our best strategic thinking with our DC team.
Our rollercoaster continues, although it seems less loopy and steep.
So we start our May meeting with an opening from our Chief Marketing Officer, Gloria Loree. “Before I begin, I want to share how excited and nervous I feel. The work we are doing is so important to so many people, and communities and businesses. We are finally back together after the world changed. It’s an huge honor to contribute.” Right?!? Go Team!
Masks are off, colleagues are reuniting, recovery and innovation remain topical… there is an air of some relief and it remains an uphill climb. There is so much to do to reimagine and redesign the future of the industry for Canada. Ergo my small contribution to trying to inspire Canadians to choose Canada.
As I returned to Calgary, to complete my Alberta adventures, I am exhilarated and inspired, tired and ignited. The world is opening up and the energy for hosting and exploring is palatable.
If you could choose travel – would you choose Canada? What’s on your Canadian bucket list?
