Adventures Getting Lost

The Great Trail - Victoria, BC

Riding urban trails in a new city is an adventure unto itself. For a moment I’d almost wish I was lost in the bush than on sidewalks with traffic and speedy cyclists whizzing by. I am here to tell you that urban trail charm is real – and that of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail – has changed my heart and mind.

‘Not all who wander are lost’ is an expression that I have quoted and shared as a meme in my adventures on hiking and cycling on trails and while paddling rivers and lakes. The beauty of the downtown Victoria TransCanada Trail route (Galloping Goose) includes the dozens of small paths that veer off into neighbourhoods and over bridges and through parks by water and streams. It’s lovely to wander.

Oh and the PINK! Never have I ever rode through swaths of pink pedals covering the roads and sidewalks – it’s sure worth a stop and take a literal and mental picture. One house had another pink floral bush by their home and their driveway was blanketed in pink petals and then sprinkled with a darker floral accent from this bush… a magnificent and psychedelic springtime experience.

Later today, I endeavor to explore north and ride The Great Trail north of Saanich and maybe along the ocean tomorrow. Exploring this way introduces me to the people, landscapes, culture, architecture, communities, and neighbourhoods - not the things you’d find if you stayed in your car or on the proverbial beaten path.

(PS: Preach to the Trailforks App)
