The Most Powerful Ocean Ever

First toasted marshmallows du voyage
My own private sea monster (aka Goose Barnacles) - apparently edible!?
Tofino/Ucluelet, BC
I finally got settled in for the night at Green Point Campground on Long Beach, Tofino, BC. Sound of waves crashing, a damp, cool evening spent at my quiet campfire - I think I slept 11 hours that night.
It poured the night before - slept through it all - BLISS.
Setting the Stage: Imagine an early morning rainforest that hosts moss-covered gigantic cedar trees, stoic in dusks light and the quiet morning air. And then, the sun sneaks through morning cloud cover and something surreal happens… the forest and the green… they light up! Like a glowing green velour carpet.
The first sun hits the cool sand of Long Beach and an eerily beautiful mist forms. It’s like bearing witness to something unearthly or out of this world. BREATHLESS.
The Pacific Ocean and this coast line are so unique compared to the shorelines around north-eastern Nova Scotia where I grew up. The Northumberland Strait is warmer in temperature with small star fish, shells and seaweed.
This ocean on this coast is fierce and unforgiving. Only the fittest of sea life survive, and in doing so, have morphed into larger, more hearty proportions - giant orange and fushia starfish, 30 ft long bull-whip seaweed and more! INCREDIBLE!.
The shells that find their way on shore as the tide goes out - they are spectacular colors and shapes - more beautiful for their survival through the frigid, powerful water. I’d like to think that those of us that survive ‘tough’ - also emerge brighter, shinier and more colorful too. MAGIQUE.
